The
INSIDER’SEdition
In August 2023 Mark participated in an International Art Collection in Helsinki, Finland. He designed a 6ft Red Oak and Ash sculpture, fit it inside his luggage, and traveled to Europe without breaking a piece!
Weather Catcher

Mark’s inspiration for his piece was to capture wood as a hydrotopic material. The sculpture’s arms change shape and position depending on the humidity or lack thereof in the environment. In high humidity, moisture is absorbed and the arms bend straighter. In dry air, humidity is released and the arms contract creating tighter bends.
Distinctive traits of the sculpture include its linear shape casting beautiful shadows, and tentacle-like arms activated by the world around them. Mark first steam-bent the sculpture and then cross-laminated each tentacle.
Hosted at the MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Centre, the exhibition was a collaborative by Videokaffe. Videokaffe was co-founded in 2011 by Mark and 9 international artists, together they work at the intersection of handcraft and technology. For the first time since the pandemic, the collaboration came together in Finland to promote curiosity and create thought-provoking art.
